This morning on Facebook, I spoke of the “rebirth” of McKeesport. That was not quite the proper choice of words.
Rebirth represents the “Bringing in Back” philosophy. We don’t want that in McKeesport. What we need is “Transformation”.
Transformation involves remembering our roots but moving to something new, better and fresh.
I don’t dream of Bringing it Back. That at its core is a failed strategy. It is impossible to ever have the past back.
I’m all about “Moving Us Forward”! Mckeesport.
All of us.

I have been a bit sarcastic and critical of the Mayor. Several friends have advised to leave the man alone. I will do my best to do so and just to discuss my ideas, opinions and solutions for McKeesport.
Along those lines, I am working on a discussion of a demolition/rehab philosophy that I’d encourage JB to review and implement. It is far superior to the scattered and preferential method that has been utilized in McKeesport far before he took office. It will be up here as soon as possible friends.
Be Blessed and Be Safe,

Yesterday would have been a great day for paving. Did I miss the Mayor’s golf outing again? Damn, guess I’ll have to check the Daily News for a full page spread….

“Some men see things as they are and say ‘WHY?’ I dream things that never were, and say ‘WHY NOT’?”
A good friend of mine who’s heart and mind is still in Mckeesport posted that quote a few days ago.
I had always attributed the quote to RFK. Bobby did cite the quote in 1968 but it belonged to Geroge Bernard Shaw.
This is exactly how I think about McKeesport.
Despite naysayers and self serving politicians, we still have all the potential in the world here!

Sluggos:
Again I honor Ms. Fawn Walker for her community involvement. I saw Fawn in the evening at the day of peace and she was still running around at 90 miles an hour workin on things. This young lady has a future and we are all lucky to have her.
Ron “Porky” Melocchi for the Carnival and all the things he does for the kids of McKeesport. Ron has built a successful life for himself and I’m thankful he chooses to give back to the community.
McKeesport Street Crew and PW Director Nick Shermenti for doing a fine job on Grandview Ave and Versailles Avenue. I know that these gentlemen didn’t hold up the project and that the work they do, when finished, will be outstanding.
I’ll lay off The Mayor this week as he did win the Mayor of the year award, which, whether you agree with the award or not, does bring positive attention to the city as far as the outside world is concerned. Plus the roads are progressing now. I prod the Mayor not to be a jerk, but to get things done. He gets the week off for good behavior… LOL We’ll keep him on the watch list but I do promise to attempt to be not so critical of JB. I bet most of you would rather hear what I propose we do to improve McKeesport anyway. Along those lines, I have decided against dissecting and parsing each word of the Daily News article crediting him with the reasons he won the award. Don’t want to give up all my VERBAL ammo should I make that run next May….
Nancy: My favorite (he said sarcastically) News Source, our hometown institution the Daily News… OK guys, JB is Mayor of the year. We all get it. Want me to place a Happy Ad so we can put this old news to rest… Sheeeesh!
You all have a safe and blessed weekend! Unless something big comes up, I’m off the wire till Monday.
Peace.

The much anticipated Versailles Avenue paving commenced yesterday and will continue today. The first work done on and near the viaduct looks pretty good. You may want to avoid the lower portion of Versailles today if you can.
The Post-Gazette has more coverage of last week’s School Board meeting:

I’d like to thank the city street crew and the Public Works Director for doing a fine job on the View the last few days. I appears to have come out very well. I suspect they would have preferred to do the work 6 weeks ago, right after the milling, but obviously, it was not their call….
Good job guys. We appreciate you.
Often our public works guys are the unappreciated. They are often the first laid off and the last to get the equipment that they need. Police and Fire tend to get a bit more glory but they couldn’t do their jobs with out Public Works.
A good city government and workforce is a team bonded together in service for the public good. Many of our city employees are capable. We just need the right coach to bring it all together better.
Feel me?

Monday, I did not talk to a single person who wasn’t laughing over the Mayor of the Millennium (or whatever) selection…..
Part of me wants to sit down and refute every fallacy, myth and piece of spin in the article. That would be a very lengthy post and take a good bit of time. But the article is such a farce, it may be like shooting fish in a barrel.
I’ll leave it up to you, my faithful readers.

I’d personally like to thank Ron “Porky” Melocchi and a the recreation board for once again bringing the carnival to the city. Porky in particular has a deep affection and commitment to the youth of McKeesport.
What some of us may neglect to see is that there are many McKeesport youth whose parents or guardians can’t afford to take to Kennywood. The Carnival provides them with some of the same thrills and excitement at a much more affordable price. Porky doesn’t run the carnival for a profit. He’s lucky if it breaks even and hopefully with this years weather that happened. Otherwise he eats the loss for the good of the kids.
May I add, that the Carnival Fireworks were in my opinion from ground zero, were better that those the city bought for the 4th!
More than a few people like to talk the talk in McKeesport. Sadly, few walk the walk for the community as well as Pork.
